Vid of the Day - Sports Acrobatics!

My translation may be slightly off.

The strength, flexibility, muscular control and sheer awesomeness you are seeing here is amazing. I take adult gymnastics class, and so should you. An article is upcoming on the benefits of this, but for now just go do it - it is some of the funnest(sic) training you will ever do, if nothing else.

Vid of the Day - Choke This Guy Out!

Wow. This is some insane neck strength… I can’t find any info on this guy, though, does anyone have his fight stats?

Just a short post today… not really sure what else to say to that, except: some years from now, I will be trying this!

Stay strong. Be resourceful.

Vid of the Day - One-Legged Box Jumps

Here are some one-legged box jumps by our friend from the other day.

I’ve never tried these before, and am now very inspired to… who has had experience with them? What do they offer versus the two-legged variety? I am currently keeping my legs busy with the Smolov Jr. (I will be doing the full Smolov in the next year- stay tuned for the most painful article I will ever write), but I will get on these soon and log my results. For those who aren’t familiar with these two programs, take a deep breath and click here

Vid of the Day - This is what we mean!

This is what we mean by being resourceful! Is it squat assistance? Is it deadlift assistance? Well… To quote the gentleman in the video, you are watching “One hard mofo of an exercise!!!” - that’s good enough for me.

My home gym isn’t set up to try this, but I am itching to and am looking into setting something up… anyone else who does, tell me how it goes.

Vid of the Day - Kettlebell Snatch

Here is Dave Whitley performing 154 reps in the snatch with a 32kg kettlebell, in 5 minutes.

This is here because it’s just plain badass. Watch it and then try and do it.

Vid of the Day - Squat!

Squatting is fantastic, and so far as I am (and you should be) concerned it is one of the keys to strength. And these videos are a big part of what you need to do it right.

Here is the first one. Check “more from this user” on the side of the page to find the rest, and then squat. To paraphrase something Yuri Vlasov, the first man to snatch over 200kg’s(!) once said… Squat. Squat till there is dark red twilight in your head and the roaring of blood in your ears.

Stay strong. Be resourceful.

Sample Basic Strength Routines

Found this on a forum:

Sample Basic Strength Routines

There’s some great stuff in there if you’re starting out or need some new ideas.
The Mike Mahler stuff is particularly well written and easy to follow.

Thanks to SuperMick for that one!

Vid of the Day - Band Sprint Training with Ross

Once again Ross Enamait brings the effective low-tech training. You can practice this just about anywhere, and it means you can do your sprints indoors if you can’t get to a park or it’s raining. You can even take your bands on holiday with you in your suitcase!

If you’ve gone to the sports store to look for bands, I recommend getting the heaviest duty bands and growing into them. Even if you can’t sprint as far as Ross does in the video, you’ll still be able to get part of the way. You’ll grow into them and you won’t have to buy new ones later.

No excuses!

Vid of the Day - Kettlebell Basics

Comrade! Here is a video showing some great kettlebell basics. More on kettlebells in an article later, but to say the least now: I am a believer. Swings are totally awesome!

I don’t entirely agree with the form demonstrated here, but they’re all minor things and this gentleman is doing a very solid job. Pay attention and get to it.

Stay strong. Be resourceful.

Vid of the Day - Ultimate Core

This has to be some of the coolest core and just general upper body strength we’ve ever seen.

Check out the front/back lever hybrid movement on the rope towards the end. Absolutely incredible.

Stay strong. Be resourceful.
